The Official Profile of Benigno "Noynoy" Cojuangco Aquino III

I don’t have a crystal ball but at the rate things are going, I have a strong feeling that Noynoy Aquino is going to win the 2010 presidential elections. One only has to look at the trend of how most Filipinos have chosen their past presidents to conclude that a candidate just has to have a popular first or last name. In Noynoy’s case, his first, middle and last names all stand out. Filipinos, being suckers for word games have even scrambled “Noynoy” to come up with “Noypi”, as if we needed another term to further push our “Filipino pride” mentality to even greater imagined heights. I gotta hand it to his campaign team though. They really know how to work up Noynoy’s appeal to the mob. They need not even bother going overboard in their efforts because he already had his supporters at “hello”.

What do I know about Noynoy? Hmmm…I will never meet Noynoy in person, but with the amount of stuff that’s been written about him in recent months, I feel like I already know him thanks to both his supporters and detractors. Not bad for someone who captured hardly anyone’s attention before his mother’s death. Yet, it is so hard to distinguish what is real and what is fabricated out of all the chatter surrounding him.

If we are to believe the latest Pulse “survey”, he is undoubtedly the most popular candidate at the moment. And the battle to stomp down this popularity rages on. On one side of the ring is the group that burns with a passion to support Noynoy’s candidacy even if it kills them. Facing them off is the group with all the questions about his credibility, all of which are being totally ignored by the former group. It’s so obvious who is going to win this fight. The enormous number of men and women charging ahead with Noynoy without using a bit of brain to understand why they are doing so, is enough indication of what the most likely outcome of this election will be. It’s like Normandy all over again except this time, the troops are storming the beach for the wrong reasons. As they say in a war, it does not matter who is right or wrong, what matters is who is winning the war. But then soldiers are trained to follow orders without question. That’s not something we expect of voters.

Admittedly, I am writing about Noynoy because I want to jump into the bandwagon. I noticed that every time someone writes something about Noynoy, the article gets attacked from the front, back and centre and I’m in a fighting mood lately. I am obviously taking the side of reason and thought that a more scientific approach could ward off potential attackers, so what follows is what I hope will be seen as an alternate angle to the Noynoy “debate”.

Since we only hear about Noynoy but don’t hear a lot from the man himself, how I wish I could at least have access to his iPod! If I can find out what type of music he listens to, I could form a better idea of what type of person he is. Some research conducted last year by a certain Professor Adrian North of Heriot-Watt University led to the conclusion that musical taste and personality type are closely related. Professor North wrote: “If you know a person’s music preference you can tell what kind of person they are…” He suggested that classical music fans were shy, while heavy metal aficionados were gentle and at ease with themselves. Fans of dance music are outgoing but not gentle; and listeners of Indie music have low self-esteem, are creative but not hard-working. Furthermore, soul music lovers have high self-esteem, are creative, outgoing, gentle, and are at ease.

So, if Noynoy dances to the tune of “I feel good” by James Brown, the country will be in good hands. But if he has “I shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley or songs by indie artist Pete Doherty on his playlist, Filipinos better pack their bags and head for the nearest airport. I therefore strongly urge everyone who can’t be bothered to ask for his campaign platform, to at least dig up a bit of info on his taste in music — and get to know the man through that.

Imagine too if I could ask the late Cory or Ninoy about their son and gain a bit of insight on what he was like as a child — specifically considering that Noynoy is a middle child. Apparently, middle kids get less attention from their parents. I’d like to know if this was the case with Noynoy. There was a recent survey involving a thousand parents and a thousand middle children commissioned by www.thebabywebsite.com. A third of the parents who participated said their middle child was the naughtiest and had the easiest ride compared to the other siblings, mostly because they were under less scrutiny. Fast forward to today and we see Noynoy still having the easiest ride among all the candidates while enjoying the benefit of simply disregarding all the scrutiny coming his way. His supporters are so ferociously protective of him. There is something to be said about people who are so defensive. The result of the said survey on middle children also showed that half of the children interviewed claimed that they were less “mothered” than their siblings and were forced to learn things more quickly. “Four out of ten said they had to fight for attention, one in three felt there was no role for them in the family and more than a third said they were left alone to do their homework”.

It’s not hard to imagine how left out Noynoy would have been before and especially after his mom Cory was catapulted into the limelight. He could have easily suffered the middle child syndrome, always craving for attention. This could explain why he is enjoying all the attention he gets nowadays. As Michael Jackson would say, “It’s his turn to shine” and he’s not exactly acting like a wallflower. Who could blame him when everyone around him is pushing him to the dance floor?

Noynoy doesn’t even score brownie points when it comes to having a woman behind his “success”. For one, he doesn’t have a better half and, two, he can’t claim to be a success in his own right to begin with. Don’t get me wrong, not having a better half is not exactly grounds for disqualification from the race to the presidency but c’mon, “women may not be good at reading maps but when it comes to finding lost items, they beat men hands down” all the time. Scientists in the US had concluded that a brain region called the parietal lobe which governs spatial awareness is active in both sexes when looking at “beautiful” pictures. However, while neurons on both sides of woman’s brain are always stimulated, only those in the right hemisphere were activated in men. This means that since men use the left side of their brain less frequently, they are not as aware of the objects around them as women. This might explain why Noynoy is a bit dense when it comes to finding the draft of his platform.

He does score points at daydreaming though. Another study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests that daydreaming might be a better way to solve problems than intense focusing. Scientists scanned the brains of people and the MRI scans showed that the “default network” deep inside a human brain is more active during daydreaming. Likewise, in a surprise finding, the scans also revealed an intense activity in the executive network, the outlying region of the brain which is associated with complex problem-solving. Noynoy must have read this report; hence explaining why his photos always show him daydreaming!

Even if the above info about daydreaming were true, there will hardly be any work done when a man who doesn’t have a wife and kids takes over Malacanang, because according to another poll, men are bigger gossips than women. There was a poll of 5000 people by global research company www.onepoll.com which says that the office is just like one big locker room when men are involved. It found that the office is the preferred gossip place for men and men are happiest talking to work colleagues with 58 percent admitting it made them feel “part of the gang”. Their favourite topics include rumors about office relationships, sex, and salaries. And with Noynoy having access to Kris’ friend Boy Abunda, it becomes more likely that tackling poverty will not be a priority in Malacanang if he wins.

In the looks department, I really don’t see his appeal. It’s good that he is not attempting to hide his thinning hairline with a comb over but he could use a new pair of glasses because what he is wearing kinda makes him look dorky, and yellow definitely highlights his paleness even more. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Personally I don’t care if someone doesn’t look like George Clooney. I would go for an intellectual anytime even if he looks like Shrek. I have been told that the brain is the sexiest organ of the human body. Nothing can pump up and get your juices flowing better than a good conversationalist. Now, I reallly don’t know if Noynoy’s got the gift of the gab because I hardly hear him talk. It’s always his supporters talking for him.

Even if we use the coolness barometer, he still fails. A consumer psychologist by the name of Adam Ferrier who studied the traits of cool people said that unfortunately, being self-aware about your level of coolness makes you uncool. How many times have we seen Noynoy wave the “L” sign as if it were the coolest thing on earth? A lot. Another factor in determining a person’s coolness is someone who defies convention. Noynoy in that regard, is not exactly a poster boy for the James Dean wannabe’s.

There you go ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, knowing all of the above still gives us not the slightest clue as to how Noynoy intends to lead the Philippines to an economic recovery. It’s a shame we can’t use torture to get some kind of platform from the Noynoy camp. Oh well, I guess we’ll just all have to wait and see.

Epilogue:

The author does not consider Liberal Party’s “Social Contract with the Filipino People” as a complete platform.

Were they still alive today, Adler and Dreikurs would be adding chapters to their books with cases studies of this guy, and maybe his supporters, too.

Unfortunately, I disagree with you on the impact of bachelorhood. I believe it is significantly more damaging to a man in a high leadership position than you give it credit for. Perhaps the same is true for women, too, but that’s not exactly my area of expertise. Having a mate puts one in a position of constantly engaging with another person: interpreting moods and feelings, understanding another’s thought patterns, constant practice in making compromises, and so on. In short, having a mate forces one to practice critical interpersonal communication skills on a continuous basis. And the best part is, having a mate means having at least one person in the world who won’t bullshit you, and who will tell you when you’re being stupid or when that tie doesn’t go with that shirt.

We’ve had 44 presidents in the US, and only one bachelor: James Buchanan, whose less-than-sterling performance in the office was immediately followed by the Civil War.

      Hi BenK

Please tell me I made you smile at least 🙂

Were they still alive today, Adler and Dreikurs would be adding chapters to their books with cases studies of this guy, and maybe his supporters, too.

I’d like to invite 5000 participants from his supporters and conduct a survey on what type of personalities they have that makes them not see beyond the yellow outfit 🙂

I agree with you on the bachelorhood and how it is a disadvantage when facing the toughest job in the country. Having a partner who knows the real him will keep Noynoy grounded amidst all the adulation that he receives. Unfortunately, there is no rule against being single although it seems that it can be politically disadvantageous as well.

      • EL BARAKO says:

WHY DID YOU ENTITLE IT ” THE OFFICIAL PROFILE OF BENIGNO “NOYNOY” COJUANGCO AQUINO III ” ? Is this really “OFFICIAL” ? Did it come from the camp of Noynoy ? Or another dirty trick ???

      • ilda says:

        @ El Barako

What’s your problem with it? 🙂

      • EL BARAKO says:

Can’t you read what I wrote ? Who do you intend to deceive ? Obviously this article did not come from

Noynoy’s camp so it can not be official. So why the dirty trick? You guys getting so desperate?

      • ilda says:

        @ El Barako

If you read beyond the title, you will be able to answer your own questions. Out of all the things that I wrote, the last thing I expected you to question is the title 🙂

Now, why would I try and trick anyone? My opinions are backed up by scientific data 🙂

I don’t need permission from Noynoy’s camp to write something about Noynoy. I live in a free world.

      • GabbyD says:

thats a good question. why is it called official?

its not that important really. its just… weird… its not a play on words, and the body of the text isn’t a satirical take on official profiles. so its not satirical. its obviously not the official profile, so its not really misleading. i’m at a loss as to why its titled ‘official’.

      • BongV says:

        GabbyD:

It is a literary device – the official profile – or the lack of one. 😉

      • ilda says:

You know what GabbyD? If you have to ask that question, it means you won’t understand the answer 🙂

      • jethernandez says:

Wow madame ilda… i really admire how you can still be subtle in answering queries such as that one of gerard and gabby.

Pinipigilan ko na nga ang sarili ko na wag mag reply… every time nakakakita ako ng mga ganyang tanong naalala ko yung isang professor ko nung kinukuha ko ang elementary degree ko… he warned us about asking questions. DON’T ASK STUPID QUESTIONS… sabi nya… WHAT YOU ASK… IS WHAT YOU ARE. Parang sinabi nya… If your question is stupid… then you are stupid.

      • GabbyD says:

ouch, ilda, you wound me! 🙂 is bong right? its a joke? it doesnt matter since its not damaging, its just odd.

        @jet

        your wisdom is beyond compare.

      • jethernandez says:

hi gabby… hehehehe… WHERE IN DA HELL IS MY GULAMAN AT SAGO?

let’s have a cup of kapeng barako sometime… after election perhaps… whoever wins… do we have a deal?

      • ilda says:

        @GabbyD

What makes you think that I’m joking? 🙂

      • jethernandez says:

        Yes…. GERARD… AKA EEEEEEEEL BARAAKOOOOOOOO…. to the rescue… Warn the others!!!! woooooo…. hehehehe…

        repeat after me GERARD

HINDI AKO SI BATMAN… SI GERARD AKO

HINDI AKO SI BATMAN… SI GERARD AKO

HINDI AKO SI BATMAN… SI GERARD AKO

      • ilda says:

        @El Barako

How long have you been living under a rock?

This article is a legitimate piece of work. This is an analysis of Noynoy Aquino and his bid for the presidency. Do you think that Hustisya’s article or his 33 Reasons on Barrio Siete is more “official” for you? Read over my article a few more times and tell me what you cannot understand about it. Tell me which part of it do you disagree with aside from the title? Just bring it on.

When you first started out joining the discussion of this blog a couple of days ago, you were even fully immersed in the debate about Noynoy’s bachelorhood and as BenK pointed out; Noynoy’s bachelorhood is a legitimate cause for concern. Now what other points did I raise in my article that you think is not valid or “official” enough for you?

Anyone who has had a decent education should understand where this article is coming from. As I said, my points or every piece of opinion I raised has been backed up by scientific data 🙂

      • jethernandez says:

        madame ilda

para kang speech pathologist na kaibigan ko… grabe ang tyaga nya sa mga pasyente nya. damn… how i wish i have that virtue with “educated” imbeciles.

  2. EL BARAKO says:

Let us not close the door to the possibility that Noynoy MIGHT, before entering Malacanang, would so decide to announce his wedding plans with Ms. Shalani Soledad. I wonder if you guys will be generous enough to post a picture of the simple but wonderful lady from Valenzuela. If so sudden, or maybe just on time, she and Noynoy decides to marry, HINDI KO TALAGA ALAM KUNG SAANG KANGKUNGAN PUPULUTIN AND ASAWA NG IBANG KANDIDATO.

My goodness, Shalani is really a stunner. Simple lang pero may dating. Mahinhin pero lilingunin mo nang makasampung beses. If ever one will, for some candid reason, organize a gathering of all the partners of the presidentiables, mind you, baka yung asawa lang ni Gibo ang may laban. All the rest, magmumukhang yaya or maid ni Shalani.

I am not being rude to the other presidentiables. Hindi magandang first lady yung mga nakuha nila. Let us just be candid about it but I can’t stop laughing at Loi Estrada na kamukha ni Madam Auring and Cynthia Villar na parang si Tiya Pusit sa biglang tingin. Si Mrs. Gordon naman parang matabang version ni Matutina. Would you just imagine, if any ot their husbands becomes president and one of those ladies mentioned will be showcased to the world as our “first lady”? Huwag po. nakakahiya. Baka sabihin ng iba, puro ganun ang mukha natin.

I put my hat up to Noynoy. Tumandang binata, might have waited really long. But the long wait may be worth it, bastat si Shalani ang magiging first lady niya.

    • BongV says:

still is not a reason why people should vote for said candidate.

      • EL BARAKO says:

BongV, please succumb to reason. Second to the President, the first lady will be the most exposed to everyone and people will take pictures of her. Newspapers will put it in their pages. Magazines. Some of her pictures may even appear in books, cover of notebooks and even in the walls of government offices katulad nang panahon ni Imelda.

        Ano na lang ang mangyayari sa atin bayan kapag ang nakita nila ay ;

a.) Litrato ng maton-version ni Matutina

        b.) Kahawig ni Tiya Pusit

        c.) Kamukha ni Madam Auring

THe only benefit that we can get is probably, the radication of rodents but then, migratory birds may no longer pass by our beloved Philippines.

But then, pwede naman segurong gawing pantawas sa may sakit o kontra kulam.

IBA talaga kapag ang nakita ay ang isang MAALIWALAS NA MUKHA. Maganda. Mahinhin. Simple.

      • lee says:

        nyaaaak, anu to? beauty contest?
para mong sinabing iboboto mo si macoy dahil maganda si imelda
(altho maka macoy ako di ako maka imelda)

tol,mas nakakatakot ang mga mahihinhin, dahil nasa mga mahihinhin ang mga mahihindutin, sami nyan samin sa bulacan nyahahaha sa putahan nagtatrabaho sa gabi pero hihinhin sa araw.

pero i dont see the point eh, maganda at mahihinhin, so
dahil dun qualified na syang maging pers lady?
        ah ewan ang gulo!

      • EL BARAKO says:

Hindi ko sinasabing beauty contest dapat. But come to think of it, si Gordon matabang version ni Dolphy.

      • BongV says:

wow… ang babaw naman nito.. UNBELIBABOY! 🙂

      • Chino says:

Walang hiya, is this even reason? Does the beauty of the First Lady correspond to the quality of the presidency? What a load of horse crap.

      • lee says:

tol chino, nakaka bwiset ang katangahan diba? retard din pala to kagaya ko ahahaha

      • EL BARAKO says:

Its not like that, my point is mas maganda sana kung maganda ang first lady but I admit it is not really important. Bastat kung kamukha ni Matutina or Madam Auring ang first lady, seguro sa ribbon cutting sa Maguindanao na lang muna siya assign.

      • jethernandez says:

Election = Beauty Contest… Sa sobra mong kalibugan dun ke shelani ginawa mong beauty contest ang campaign. Ang nagagawa talaga ng libog OO.

I don’t care about Shelani’s pasts. I am sure she is a good person. If she is Noynoy’s choice, she’s my choice too as the country’s future first lady.

Should Noynoy decide to get married, that would only eliminate one of his many disadvantages.

      • EL BARAKO says:

Nope. Actually, hindi naman disadvantage kasi girlfriend naman niya. Kapag si Gordon ay dinivorce si Matutina, yun ang eliminating one of the many, many disadvantages.

        EL BARAKO!!!! DA FORMER POLICEMAN!!!

    • ilda says:

Noynoy remains single by choice. If he announces that he is getting married soon or before the election, the timing is kinda questionable. One might ask, is he getting married because he wants to or because there’s this pressure to get married for the sake of the campaign or to please the people around him?

      • EL BARAKO says:

Hindi naman seguro. Noynoy is leading by a wide margin and Villar’s billions can buy only as much…seguro the best his huge money can buy is just 3-5 notches up malayong-malayo pa rin. Noynoy has the luxury of campaigning, 2-3 weeks off for honeymoon, then balik na naman sa campaign trail.

People will not take Noynoy’s wedding as another publicity stunt. Alam nila that Noynoy has the purest hearts, no ill intentions.

      • ilda says:

People will not take Noynoy’s wedding as another publicity stunt.

Still, after being single for so long, a possible wedding before the election would be perfect timing for his campaign and would entertain the masa even more. And the masa being a hopeless romantic, would be romanticised. Nice touch indeed.

Alam nila that Noynoy has the purest hearts, no ill intentions.

How does one know this for sure? Unless you have access to Noynoy’s inner most thoughts, you can never be too sure about how he feels about anything..

A person may have the purest intentions but if misguided or ill advised by the people he is trying to please, will surely make a mistake at the expense of the people.

      • BenK says:

“People will not take Noynoy’s wedding as a publicity stunt.” I would, and I’m at least one people.

If his heart is as pure as you say it is (which it isn’t, anyone who runs for office over the grave of his own dead mother is sick), he’d wait until after he got elected, because his non-ill intentions would tell him that doing it before would look EXACTLY like a publicity stunt.

      • Chino says:

People will not take Noynoy’s wedding as another publicity stunt. Alam nila that Noynoy has the purest hearts, no ill intentions.

Oh, they will. Mark my words, they will.

      • lee says:

“People will not take Noynoy’s wedding as another publicity stunt. Alam nila that Noynoy has the purest hearts, no ill intentions.”

pekpek mo, baka nga lampasan pa nya si mar eh, let see.

      • BongV says:

Then, Hustisya aka El Barako – edits 33 excuses to become 34 excuses, Vote for Noynoy because he’s marrried….

and out comes the…… dUhhhh….. so are Gordon and Villar… married longer than Noynoy… do they make better presidents then?

        NYA HAHAHAHAA

      • GabbyD says:

wow, thats strange, cynical comment. marriage is a big deal, and is hard to reverse in the philippines. certainly, the major reason to get married wont be for political reasons.

i wouldnt wish that kind of marriage on anyone.

  3. EL BARAKO says:

And further more, I think the partners of the candidates somewhat mirror their own character and value. Noynoy lives a simple lifestyle, so simple din ang girlfriend niya. Si talino at galing, magaling din talaga, she married a model.

I am not insunuating anything bad about the other candidates but would you just imagine, darating dito si Obama. Syempre kasama si Michelle. And then they will march the red carpet, makikita ng ibang presidente natin na mas maganda pa yung umaalalay na lady bodyguard sa asawa ng ating pangulo, eh baka tayo mapulaan na naman nina Jay Leno.

    Sa totoo lang….

Oh yeah? But the farmers of Hacienda Luisita owns 33%, si Noynoy 1% lang. Parang si tugma.

Gun club is one of the cheapest diversion, mas mataas pa nga ang annual membership sa ROTARY na P6,000. Mura lang ang bala, P5 lang ang isa. 100 putok, P500 lang.

    • BenK says:

Stop with the simple lifestyle garbage. He is a sitting Senator, and a scion of a family that is the closest thing to royalty in this country. To hear his supporters keep saying that (I’d like to say I’ve heard him say it, but I don’t know that he has) is crudely disingenuous at best, and an insult to everyone’s intelligence.

Let’s see him ride the train to work, as the current Vice-President of the US did most every day he was a Senator from the state of Delaware. And no one ever heard Joe Biden or his supporters yapping about his “simple lifestyle”.

That’s what I call someone who is in touch with his people.

I think this snippet out of the above article says it all:

Now, I reallly don’t know if Noynoy’s got the gift of the gab because I hardly hear him talk. It’s always his supporters talking for him.

And now Mr EL BARAKO presumes to speak for the man and describe him as a guy who has a “simple lifestyle”. Like you know the guy real well, dude.

If the Pinoy public truly valued a simple lifestyle in their politicians to begin with, then why did they vote Erap (a womaniser, boozer, and plunderer) to the Presidency back then? If Pinoys value simplicity, why are we so beholden to the flamboyant Manny Pacquiao and his stariray mother?

As Michael Tan observed way back:

The swagger, the insolent voice, the conspicuous consumption of wealth are all part of an assertion of privilege, a long-playing ritual to intimidate others into “modest” silence. In countries where such a culture dominates, like the Philippines, progress is slow. There is little room for innovation or creativity since individual merit is rarely recognized. The only way up, besides being born into privilege, is to join the circle of sycophants that sing daily praise to those in power.

Our language says it all. We do not have words for “modest” and “modesty” in Tagalog, except in the sense of how a woman is supposed to behave. We do have a word for “humble” – mapagpakumbaba, which emphasizes the way we are supposed to lower, even prostrate ourselves, in relation to the powerful. Alas, we are a nation humbled and hobbled.

Pinoys throw around concepts of simplicity like we are such experts on the subject. The fact is, we know nothing about simplicity. All we know is hiya (loss of face) and we are motivated primarily by the fear of mapahiya (humiliation). I think Noynoy’s popularity lies in his coming across as non-threatening in the sense that he lacks the brains, grace, and stance to be assertive of that leadership over the Filipino people that he is expected to exhibit when he becomes President.

He is no different to Erap in the sense that it is the same mass psychology at work that charms the masses. Erap was the everyman that Pinoys long for the represent them in the halls of power. Today, Noynoy is the non-threatening simpleton whose most endearing pitch to the Voter is what he won’t do and won’t be.

    • EL BARAKO says:

Benigno, I am not professing that I speak for Noynoy. Nope. Nope. Nope. NOOOOO! OK? And I don’t know Noynoy personally. I am discussing issues with you right now thinking that maybe, I can get a piece of your wisdom. And you, from mine. For after all, we are all and we are all after the best for our country.

What I can not understand is your double standard, Pag Mayor ng New York, OK nga simple lifestyle. Pag senador na Pilipino, hindi mali yan.

      Then you talk like god saying this;

“Pinoys throw around concepts of simplicity like we are such experts on the subject. The fact is, we know nothing about simplicity. All we know is hiya (loss of face) and we are motivated primarily by the fear of mapahiya (humiliation).”

Who the hell are you to describe Filipinos like that? Are you our ever-awake guardian who did nothing for the past 20 years but observe us. Lokohin mo tatay mo, huwag kami. What you have are all unsubstantiated if not misguided prejudices which serves nothing but your super EGOISTIC self. We, real Filipinos, call it—SOBRANG TIWALA SA SARILE, WALA NAMAN PALANG BINATBAT.

You have not met Noynoy nor ever talked to him, nor ever acted as his psychometrician, nor has ever conducted an interview with him and yet here you are declaring in high heavens that

” he lacks the brains, grace, and stance to be assertive of that leadership over the Filipino people that he is expected to exhibit when he becomes President.”

Your EGO seats high up by the monumental DUNG in your useless brain. But that’s all everything in it. That’s all everything it does. NOTHING.

How about you, Mr EL BARAKO. Do you know Noynoy well? If not, then how do you presume to know that he has the “purest [of] hearts” or that he harbours no “ill intentions”?

And yes, as a matter of fact I have observed Filipinos for the past 20 years (and even longer than that). It’s quite easy — because I myself am one. And you can find my report on those observations right here. It’s there for THE WHOLE WORLD to see. 😀

      • EL BARAKO says:

More than 20 years you spent still the wrong impressions you get. We Filipinos, the real ones, rise above the occasion whenever the need arises. Remember Pinatubo? Remember Ondoy? Remember Marcos dictatorship??? THe world marvels on how we are able to redeem ourselves so fast and in firm fashion.

I was able to talk to Noynoy just once about 2 years ago. IN a short while that we were able to talk, I could see that he has a serious concern for all of us. At that that time, for sure, both of us did not expect that the presidential election will run this way, with him as among the candidates.

      • Chino says:

THe world marvels on how we are able to redeem ourselves so fast and in firm fashion.

The world also marvels… and laughs… at how stupidly we repeat these same problems over and over again when they are preventable. So we are still seen as a relatively backward country with a backward culture. Nyahahaha.

You talked to Noynoy? Talk to other candidates too. That’s biased when you say Noynoy is the best bet when you’ve talked only to him and not to other candidates.

  5. GabbyD says:

its clear that you dont like ninoy. but who do you like?

    • ilda says:

I didn’t I mentioned anything about disliking him. I am more annoyed at Noynoy’s supporters because they don’t let him campaign/talk for himself and they are actually doing him a disservice. They’ve already assumed that Noynoy is going to be a good president just because he is the son of the late Cory and Ninoy Aquino.

I would like to see a plan of action for the country from Noynoy (and the rest of the candidates) first before I endorse anyone 🙂

      • GabbyD says:

        ah, i c. i guess i was fooled by:

“This might explain why Noynoy is a bit dense when it comes to finding the draft of his platform.”

        and

“He does score points at daydreaming though”

i thought if u called someone dense, or a daydreamer, or not successful, that means you dont like him.

anyway, if ur interested in his family life, there is a lengthy interview about his relationship with his parents and sisters.

i do agree there is a dearth of substance in what is being communicated right now. i expect much more after the new year. lets see.

      • ilda says:

You know GabbyD, when someone is running for public office, they should expect to receive a lot of public scrutiny. Everything about Noynoy should be fair game especially since he let the media show his relationship with his girlfriend on public television. But none of the things the media highlights have anything to do with how Noynoy will go about dealing with the problems of the country. So, it should not be a surprise to you that Noynoy comes across as someone who is dense or someone who ignores the calls for him to present a proper platform.

He is not a success in his own right because he is just riding on the popularity of the Aquino name. This is a fact.

      • GabbyD says:

hey, u can say u all these things: not successful, dense, etc… thats ur prerogative. you can even call them ‘facts’ … go ahead.

i’m merely saying that all the things you are saying point to the reality that you dont like him, even if you dont explicitly write it out.

i agree with giving them all scrutiny. now is the time to do it. there should be more fora with the candidates, and all of the lawsuits about the candidates should be resolved ASAP so we can get on it.

by the way, how can one “let” the media show the relationship? is he supposed to lie about it? i dont get it. he has a GF — so what? there is interest in her as a human interest story — nothing more. she has nothing to do with public policy.

      • ilda says:

        @GabbyD

he has a GF — so what? there is interest in her as a human interest story — nothing more. she has nothing to do with public policy.

Indeed, she has nothing to do with public policy. But why are the people more interested in her rather than his platform? Why does the media deem it necessary to give the relationship priority airtime instead of drilling Noynoy about his plans for the future of the country? Everyone just gives Noynoy an easy ride especially the media.

You make it sound like if first lady is a stunner, the country will be in good hands. I didn’t realise that Noynoy supporters are very superficial. You seem to indicate that if you are not beautiful to the rest of the population, you are not worthy to be in Malacanang.

    • EL BARAKO says:

I am not saying that. But if you are to choose sino ang pipiliin mo, ang mahinhin na version ni Cristine Reyes or yung mala-maton na version ni Matutina?

I hope you will be honest to yourself, kayo rin mapapahiya rito,

      • ilda says:

I would rather have someone outspoken than someone who is very timid. A Filipina who is “mahinhin” in your definition is someone who can be easily manipulated by her partner or husband or someone who is just silent and quiet and always says yes to the husband. I will choose someone who is self-assured and confident, in-touch with her femininity, can stand on her own feet and someone who is independent and have her own identity over your “mahinhin”.

You are proving that most Filipinos, especially Noynoy supporters are more focused on symbols, are superficial and are gullible to believe someone is already good just because they are “mahinhin”. Just because someone is liberal doesn’t mean they are bad.

      • EL BARAKO says:

Ikaw naman associate mo “mahinhin” sa “katangahan”. Si Shalani ang tipo ng mahinhin na nagpre-preside sa council. Gets mo? Siya ang mahinhin na may lalim.

Mahirap kasi, if our first lady looks like Matutina….kahit magaling, matatawa na agad ang tao di pa man nagsasalita.

Kaya, please….post natin dito picture ni Shalani.

      • BenK says:

It’s up to Ilda, of course, but what purpose would be served by posting a picture of Noynoy’s girlfriend? I don’t understand the relevance at all.

      • ilda says:

I don’t think we really need to post a photo of Noynoy’s girlfriend. Even if you say she is beautiful it’s all relative. I know of people who are considered beautiful by many but then their personality do not match their physical appearance so it is quite a turn-off. I’m sure you will say that Noynoy’s girlfriend has the personality to match her beauty, but then again, how do you really know this?

  7. benign0 says:

People will not take Noynoy’s wedding as another publicity stunt. Alam nila that Noynoy has the purest hearts, no ill intentions.

What do the “people” know? These “people” you speak of voted Erap to the Presidency back in 1998. And then in 2001, a mob of millions of people ousted him and propelled Gloria Arroyo to the presidency. In both cases the thinking at the time was that “the people spoke”.

Given that sorry track record of “knowing” what is “good” for them, how then can you say that what they think of Noynoy — that he has the “purest [of] hearts” and/or that he has “no ill intentions” constitutes information that can be relied on?

Besides, what makes you an authority on what the people know or think of Noynoy? And what makes the people an authority on the purity of anyone’s heart much less his intentions (be they ill or not)? Don’t tell me you see the voters as mind readers. We’ve already observed here how Noynoy supporters aren’t what one would consider to be the brightest bulbs in the room.

Noynoy’s supporters go for a SINGULAR one-dimensional argument — that they feel and “know” (where that “knowledge” comes from, I don’t know myself 😀 ) that he has a “pure heart” and lacks “ill intentions”. In contrast those who are critical of his capability to lead criticise him from a broad range of MULTIPLE angles — his sorry track record, his lack of a platform, observations about how he conducts himself in public, how he lacks any kind of particular stand on ANYTHING, how he represents every pathetic trait of the Filipino (beholdenness to family pedigree, a comfyness with living under one’s parents’ shadow, etc.), and how he just generally seems to be NOT his own man but one that is just a mere creation and puppet of the very oligarchy he is desperately convincing us he is not a part of.

You can see here how Hustisya before you came up a litany of 33 reasons to vote for the bozo all 33 of which follow that single mono-dimensional line — that Noynoy is a good guy just because they and a whole bunch of other hollowheads think so. And now you take up the baton here, Mr EL BARAKO and post an equivalent number of comments that are all actually leading to the same single point — basta ako boboto kay Noynoy. Basta lang.

    Basta lang nga talaga.

Basta is the best argument Noynoy supporters can come up with. And the fact that an entire nation is rallying around an argument like this is where the reason why we as a people continue to fail to prosper lies. We lack the brains to think our way through the challenges that face us. Instead we just go with the popular sentiment. It’s called herd mentality. You get one cow panicked and running in one direction, and the rest follow like lemmings.

Kawawang Pinoy nga naman talaga. 😀

    • EL BARAKO says:

Benigno, I thought about it for a long time before I threw my support to Noynoy. I thought about it deeply, thoroughly, intensely and even consulted some of the people close to me. I even sought discernment in my prayers. It’s not Bastat Noynoy Ako Thing. No. Pinag-aralan kong mabuti.

We may debate all day if you will refute that Noynoy has a good heart. I have my bases. You have yours. But the point is, my vote, so it should be my bases for having arrived at such an impression of Noynoy.

A good heart with all the good intentions are all that matters to me. Kasi when you become a leader, best people will surely gravitate to the person with a good heart and good intentions. Noynoy may not be the brightest among the candidates but no one among the candidates can claim that he is the brightest among the Filipinos. Noynoy may not be the best expert on certain things compared to the other candidates, but the candidates, no one amongst them can claim that he is the best expert in any particular field among all Filipinos.

In short, Noynoy may not be the best in terms of ability BUT, all the BEST in this LAND will certainly rally behind and work for him because this guy has a good heart with the purest intentions.

I have given premium to HONESTY and INTEGRITY because GRAFT AND CORRUPTION eats the core of our economy. I felt that Noynoy is the MOST HONEST among all the candidates and since he is the most honest, he can FIGHT CORRUPTION by just leading as example.

Kaya kalokohan yang sinasabi mo na basta Noynoy Kami, basta lang. Sa totoo lang, pinag-aralan namin itong mabuti.

      • ilda says:

Alam mo El Barako, you confuse our call for a platform for hatred of Noynoy. I don’t want to speak for everyone but what I really want to know is how did you decide that Noynoy is the one? He does not even talk much about how he is going to deal with the issues facing the country. Oo, mukhang mabait sya but it’s not really enough isn’t it? Marami din syang kamag-anak na kailangan pag-bigyan.

If he was not the son of Cory but with the same personality, would you still vote for him? I don’t even think that people would bother to know him if he was not an Aquino or a Cojuangco. Just take a look at Perlas. He seems to have the same kind heart but they disqualified him from running because he is not well known and does not have a lot of money. That speaks a lot about our bulok public officials and the voters.

If Cory did not pass away, would his supporters even force him to run? It was all a spur of the moment decision after she died and people pleaded with Noynoy to run and it did not matter that he wasn’t even planning to run or was not ready.

      • EL BARAKO says:

OPs no, I did not say that you have hatred for Noynoy, No, no please. @gabbyD did. Kaya yung identity ni GabbyD reveal ninyo, huwag yung ako na naman…..

    • benign0 says:

Mr EL BARAKO we all have our personal reasons for holding certain beliefs. Forums like this is where such ideas and beliefs are put to the test — by exposing them to scrutiny. Of course some of us choose to keep our views personal. I can respect that. But by participating in public forums like this blog and articulating your ideas for EVERYONE to see, it is understood that you are inviting not only scrutiny, but criticism. The payback may come in terms of validation if you somehow put forth a compelling case for the ideas/beliefs you table here.

So whilst I respect your personal reasons for endorsing Noynoy, we are here to evaluate what you and I put on the table for public consumption.

Referring back to what you say in your comment above, you undoubtedly have strong feelings about your endorsement of Noynoy and, you even say that pinag-aralan [m]ong mabuti (you studied your options well). But the point of discussing (that is why you are here, right? and presumably you are here by your own free will, right?) is to gain an understanding of one’s rationale for arriving at one’s conclusions. Therefore I am interested in knowing how you arrived at the conclusions you make about Noynoy — that he supposedly meets your standards of “HONESTY and INTEGRITY”.

      In short;

Given what we know about Noynoy from readily available information, how does one conclude that he is a man of honesty and integrity?

If indeed you “studied this carefully”, then you shouldn’t have too much trouble telling us how you arrived at the conclusion that Noynoy is “the MOST HONEST among all the candidates”.

Enlighten us, plez. Because for all you know, you may actually have a convincing reason to support Noynoy. But if you don’t share this reason (specifically how you arrived at your conclusions about his character), then what’s the point in you being here to “discuss” these things to begin with?

    • Chino says:

Let me clarify one thing. I and the makers of this blog am not against Noynoy per se. What we are against is the myth that Noynoy will be the cure-all for all the corruption and the problems of the Philippines, and that with Noynoy, the Philippines will rise to become a prosperous nation. Guys, get real. This is never going to happen. It will only happen when the people themselves clean up their act.

it wasn’t me who exposed you. i’m just picking up my argument on how you view election from other blogs. it was bong who’ve posted one of the email addresses you’ve used… wala akong pakialam sa kanya… wala akong pakialam kung ano ang mundo mong gustong iparating sa websphere. kung may facebook ka o multiply account wala akong pakialam sa misis mo na pwedeng isama mo sa headshot mo. i have more respect to the pro-nonoy posters and the admin of the other blog forum that i used to post on… the likes of margallo, pherry… they are no cry babies like you are… but they know when to stop and not troll.

Trolling is what you do… kung GAGO KA mas GAGO si BongV dahil he’s exposed your email and I do believe that it is foul.

WHY DID YOU ENTITLE IT ” THE OFFICIAL PROFILE OF BENIGNO “NOYNOY” COJUANGCO AQUINO III ” ? Is this really “OFFICIAL” ? Did it come from the camp of Noynoy ? Or another dirty trick ???

Let me ask you this Mr EL BARAKO, when you read the title “official profile of [Nonoy]”, did you really believe that to be true — that this blog article is really his “official” profile?

I’m sure you didn’t. Unless, of course, you are that stupid as to actually be seriously misled by the title of this blog that you actually have to ask.

If I interpret this the right way, I believe the title of this blog is meant to be sarcastic or even satirical. It’s like when you are asked the satirical question “Is the Pope Catholic?” Only the most metaphorically-challenged person would actually think of seriously answering such a question.

    • EL BARAKO says:

  20. ilda says:

    Mr El Barako

I hope you don’t mind, I’d like to stick to the topic of my blog. If you have an issue about your identity, please direct it to the person/blogger who you were dealing with at that time. This is a different blog, don’t bring your beef with BongV here. I respect everyone’s opinion and believe in giving them the opportunity to speak their mind. I hope you realise by now that I don’t resort to profanities or rude remarks. The discussion will not go anywhere if we resort to mudslinging. Let’s just stick to replying to the arguments being raised.

Speaking of which, you still haven’t answered some of my questions:

    1. I don’t see any evidence of Noynoy as having a simple lifestyle. What proof is there that indicates he has a simple lifestyle?
    Nag-je-jeep ba sya?
    Nag-bu-bus ba sya?
    Nag-L-LRT or MRT ba sya?
Sya ba ang nag-go-grocery sa bahay nila?
Nakikita mo ba sya kung nagliligpit sa bahay nila?
Does he clean his own car?
Does he wash his own clothes?

    and this:

    2. How did you decide that Noynoy is the one?

You can’t decide on the single basis that you managed to speak with him once and without speaking to the other candidates. You simply can’t decide on mere impressions.

    • lee says:

maybe el baracos defenition of simple living is “noynoy doesnt display his kind of living” or he doesnt show it, many people doesnt even care about noy noy (who knows, some didnt know him either) till cory’s death.
ang problema sa mga taong ito, pinaibabaw nila yung pagiging emosyonal, yung drama at kalungkutan sa pagkamatay ni cory, but doesnt care what really noynoy can do, cory herself once sed that he doesnt want noynoy to run in more higher post, and why is that? he knows noynoy, he knows hes weak and not capable of running the office, and this people are trying to put him in pedestal without knowing him (excuse my english, nagpapraktis lang)

      • lee says:

You’ve already been exposing your political beliefs using your real name. Now, MR. FORMER POLICEMAN you’re crying like a spoiled toddler because BongV has exposed your email address?

There’s a reason why the word RETARD is in the dictionary.

@El Barako and other Noynoy supporters,

I’d like to share this comment that one of my friends posted on facebook:

Hello Ilda,Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! nice blog! I was actually wondering when they will begin the demolition job for this id_ot?
A close friend of mine has been a guest in his house many years ago and he could honestly swear that Noynoy was soo high on drugs that day.
I also got information more than 2 years ago from a good friend … who happens to be his 2nd cousin. In a casual conversation I asked him “Why is Noynoy not yet married? Is he gay?”. His candid answer was “Hindi naman sya bakla… drug addict lang.”
After hearing that, I no longer wonder why Noynoy keeps on stuttering during his public speeches; and why he seems to have a lopsided face… and his mouth always open. One radio announcer even joked that if Noynoy delivers a speech continuously for 5 minutes, his saliva would start dripping from his mouth. lol!
How can a man lead our country to greatness, if he cannot even decide which kind of haircut style to sport? I am sure he will just be a puppet with strings controlled by his king makers.

I thought you may be interested in getting to know the “real” Noynoy.

  28. Joe America says:

    Hmmm,

My music playlist has “I shot the Sheriff”, but it is sung by Eric Clapton, not Marley. I don’t know no Marley. I have Rory Block, Chris Smithers, Eric Bibb (gotta get right with Jesus), Taj Mahal, Keb’ Mo’, Ann Robson, Odetta, Dire Straits (Money for Nothing, Chicks for Free), Bonnie Raitt, Egberto Gismonte (striving for the obscure here), Susan Tedeshi, Indigo Girls (Aussie love chicks), Phoebe Snow, Paul Simon, Bob Seger, Creedence and, of course, the Rolling Stones. I don’t know where my Arlo Gutherie songs went; maybe they rotted with age. Oh, almost forgot Janice Joplin and Willie Nelson.

I don’t know what it means to look at one’s music list and find drugs and booze and wemmins that treat me bad.

    Happy New Year.
    Write on.

    Joe

    • ilda says:

      @Joe

Janice Joplin? You are showing your age Joe, haha 🙂

Looks like you love a bit of everything. You must be well rounded. You shouldn’t worry about being typecasted. You’re not running for the presidency anyway 🙂

    • Homer says:

Egberto Gismonti? I never thought I’d see that name on any local blog. That’s one of the “deeper” Brazilian artists that anyone could listen to. He’s a master on the 12-string, but I enjoy his piano playing more. Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Bonnie Raitt, and Susan Tedechi are cool when they stick to the bluesy stuff.

Joplin? Hasn’t she been dead for ages? Just kidding…..

Refreshing topic anyway…the holiday season is always a good time for the healing power of music.

      • ilda says:

Aha! Homer, you are a blues brother! Which means you are: a person with high self-esteem, creative, outgoing, gentle and at ease. Too bad you are not running for the presidency! 🙂

        Happy New Year!

      • Homer says:

        Wow naman Ilda.

You just painted a scenario that only happens in my sleep.

        Anyway, Happy New Year likewise…:)

  29. Chino says:

Here’s a scary story. :-p My late father, who was a Constabulary officer then, was part of an escort detail of a certain car going into Hacienda Luisita, circa 60s or early 70s. When the car arrived in Luisita, he was shocked to know that the passengers were Luis Taruc and Kumander Dante! Guess some of you are familiar that Hacienda Luisita was a base for NPAs. Or is it still?
Also, Tarlacenians will not vote for Noynoy, I heard, because of the Luisita incident and the failure of land reform. And they know how the Aquinos and Cojuangcos actually are.

    • ilda says:

Hmmmm…their Hacienda was used as a haven by NPA’s and public funds were used to transport them to and fro.. how convenient.

The people close to them know what they are made of but unfortunately, the masa and those who just see the Aquinos on TV are still beholden to the “Aquino legacy”. What is it anyway?

      • Chino says:

I don’t recall properly, but wasn’t an Aquino present during a communist group’s founding? Was it Ninoy’s father, Benigno Sr., for the post-war Huks or CPP, or Ninoy himself at the CPP or NPA founding? I read it somewhere.

      • Kahlil says:

        Hey chino,
It was Ninoy along with Joma and Commander Dante. I found this link:

“Benigno Aquino, Sison & Buscayno close ally, provided funds to launch CPP/NPA, was the basis for the dictator marcos case against Aquino used to detain him under martial law!”

        http://banlawkasaysayan.multiply.com/video/item/8

      • Chino says:

Hey thanks! I knew I remembered it right. OK, let’s see if Noynoy himself is an NPA coddler, which is likely considering the history of his father’s involvement with the NPA. Hmm, medyo nabawasan bilib ko kay Ninoy a, hahaha.

If this is the reason why Noynoy fans voted as they did, then it tells a lot about our country, doesn’t it? “I love you Noynoy! Please help give me konteng abuloy lang, to help me start up my weird business.” A sus. Ang galing.

The media coined “P-Noy” (President Noy). Maybe we should temporarily rename this site AntiP-Noy?

i believe this site focuses more on the personality of the Filipinos and its effect to the nation & the world. this is not an anti-Noynoy site. although, Noynoy is a sad epitome/icon of negative traits of the Filipino, and the most favorite sumsuman nowadays…yum!

i love reading here because it does not promote hate…but a realization of how pathetic our nation has become based on analysis of the intellectuals (writers) on our history and the current situations. the information here has helped a lot in evaluating the movement of the service organization my group is trying to establish in this uncertain times — tuloy bakwet ‘merka ba o pospon? 🙂

Thank you for saying this palebluedot. I/we don’t get this kind of comment very often. We often read people write: “This site is full of hate” hehe. 🙂
