You have some great insights and i think most of them would do the filipino people a lot of good. but i think you go a little too far with respect to your judgents about it. As a people we’re not perpetually in pursuit of happiness. Our daily lives are far from it judging by the daily routines most filipinos have which consist of earning a living most of the time. i could hardly see this as pursuing happiness excessively. But it is true that we tend to not take things seriously. However i think this is not all that bad. We as a people are inherently jovial and easy going. Yes this has a lot of disadvantages but it is also equally true that it is distinctly our own. I disaggree with the idea that such is an import from the american way as you put it. If you go out and meet the average filipino what makes them happy is very much far off from the american standard of happiness. It may not be as profound as the former but it also has its own virtues. Humility, graciousness, collegiality among other things are virtues directly attributable to our light hearted temperment. These are attitudes we gained from our forefathers based on various folktales and epics passed on in various regions of the country. I digress in my discussion. I guess all im really trying to say is that while it is true that we need to take things more seriously. I believe that we should be guided by our own culture when we do so. Its not all bad and i think if we can sort out combining what we value as a people and what we need as a country real development is possible.

‘king ina, ang lalim! Can’t say exactly what it means but it’s provocative, heheh. Honestly, I’ve read and heard this kind of comment so many times before and I agree to each and every idea said about the Filipino mentality. Ang problema eh how do we sove this problem? where do we start? What to do? We may have defined the problem. Now, what’s the solution?

I seriously wish for this. So that everyone would diligently research candidates. But the problem is…when I walked around Makati today, everyone was so busy malling and nary an ink blot on their fingers. It saddens and enrage me at the same time. May time sila mag-malling, sana may time din sila bumoto.

I ranted on FB about some Filipinos who complain about politicians when they don’t even vote. What right have you to complain when you are part of the problem and not the solution?

The truth of the article is convincing. We must be the ones who will be blamed because of the fact that we are the ones just repeatedly put politicians who are known for corruption, political dynastic families among other notorious labels. Yet, let us not be hard to the message of this: we should not just lie sleepy and hopeless because everything is in “cycle”. We can do something if we ourselves are conscientious in voting and helping others know who are the bests. I am afraid that this is not an overnight transformation or a “magical affair” in a matter of minutes. The solution is large scale – it takes a personal commitment and witnessing that we do something personally. Each one of us who has a capacity to do right with ease must be the ones to step forward and do something which others will follow. God bless the Philippines!

Politics is totally different from governance. Here in this country , sad to say, governance took a back seat a long time ago and what we have is pure politics. Governance has just been digressed to just a mere incidental to politicking. Vote for Candidates that value governance and look at governance as their calling not popularity and cash opportunity.

Andrew Bayating, anti-yellow as I may be, I am actually considering Bam Aquino in my list. I want him to be viewed as an intelligent public servant who won’t rely on the Aquino legacy or fall under it. I hope that my vote for him won’t be wasted.

As for Vice’s opinion on Nancy Binay. I don’t think there was any harm on what he said. Overlooking the arrogance, he’s a very straightforward person, and I like that. Besides, he was asked. Kumbaga, ginatungan naman kasi nila.
